Introducing: Two Clans Blended Whiskey | $75 | 51 %ABV | 102 Proof | Exclusively sold at Breckenridge Distillery
Breckenridge Distillery is proud to announce their newest collaboration with a Scottish Distillery, in arguably one of the best collaborations yet. The Dark Arts Malt Mash has long been considered a fan favorite – an American “Scotch” without the title. This un-peated whiskey is now blended with a peated Scotch out of the Highlands of Scotland, giving this spirit a complexity that fans will have to taste to believe.

Breckenridge Distillery started because of the amazing, high mineral content water, as a direct source of the high alpine environment; similar to Highlands Scotch, that gets its peated tasting profile from their environment as well. Bryan Nolt, Founder and CEO, shares how Breckenridge Distillery collaborated with Scotch distilleries to create the smooth, full mouthfeel that Breckenridge is known for.
Q: How did you come up with the name Two Clans?
A: Like the Highlands of Scotland and the River Spey, our location in Breckenridge has unique qualities that make our whiskey special. Our 300-400 inches of annual snow permeates down the Continental Divide into the Tarn, our water source. The alluvial character of this water gives our whiskeys a special mouthfeel and long finish. As Two Clans is a marriage of our Dark Arts American Malt Whiskey and Scotch Whisky, I wanted to pay homage to the Highlands and dovetail our High Country locale.

Q: What is the backstory and inspiration of this product?
A: The structure for this whiskey is the Dark Arts American Single Malt Whiskey, which is the reason I founded the distillery–specifically to make the Dark Arts. The DA is a cult whiskey, massive, malty, and chocolatey. It’s such a big whiskey, we put a dragon on the label to let you know what’s coming, and we refer to it as our Ferrari monster truck. The plan was always to use that structure and layer in subtle, traditional Scotch notes into a portfolio of whiskeys, and Two Clans is the first release in this project.
Q: Tell us about the production process from start to finish.
A: It begins with making the Dark Arts. Specialty malts pushed to the extreme with burnt and caramelized barley from the brewers’ library where fermentable sugars sacrifice their ethanol yield for the sake of complex flavor, aged in Breckenridge Bourbon barrels and stashed in the honey hole for a decade. I wanted to fortify a traditional single malt profile with some punch for the Two Clans, and it took about a decade to find the right Scotch Whisky to bring over, blend, and find the harmony. We hit the perfect note with Two Clans. It was painstaking but well worth the effort.
Head Distiller, Hans Stafsholt
Q: What makes Dark Arts the perfect fit for this?
A: It’s the structure and body of this whiskey and defines the nose, flavor, and finish.
Q: What differentiates Dark Arts from this? Why will people like this?
A: This will appeal to all fans of Single Malt Scotch
