Art + Whiskey: A Unique Craft Spirit Experience
Bryan Nolt, founder and driving force behind the Breckenridge Distillery for the last decade, knows a good bottle of whiskey is rooted in the art of blending, and he clearly has a gift for it. The small, craft distillery has produced innumerable award-winning spirits, most notably their Breckenridge Bourbon, named World’s Best Bourbon by the International Whiskey Competition and Best in Class by Whiskies of the World. Breckenridge Distillery spirits have also gained national attention for their flavor, quality, and branding. In 2018, the Breckenridge Distillery was awarded Icons of Whisky: Brand Innovator of the Year by Whisky Magazine.
The innovation continues this summer when the Breckenridge Distillery reveals its first Barrel Art Collectors Series to help illustrate the art of blending whiskey though the art of blending color with Denver-based muralist Thomas “Detour” Evans on July 30, 2019.
Detour is known for his bold, colorful portraits, tackling issues ranging from the serious to the light-hearted. The tools he uses to develop his work are not limited to any one medium – and now he will take on a wall of 14 whiskey barrels to create a unique blend of these two crafts for both art and whiskey enthusiasts to enjoy.
“Proper blending is an art, not easily learned, and something I’m sincerely passionate about.” Says Nolt. “We wanted to emphasize this connection with another type of art that people could identify with and hopefully pause for a second or two, connect the dots, and really enjoy the art in their dram. Smell and taste are just as powerful as vision, and we think focus helps you to intensify these subtle pleasures.”
Join the Breckenridge Distillery and Detour for a unique craft spirit experience as Detour finishes his whiskey barrel mural on July 30, 2019 from 5:30-8 p.m. at Skylight, 833 Santa Fe Dr. in the heart of Denver’s Santa Fe arts district.
The evening will include appetizers and hand-crafted cocktails from Liquid Chef Billie Keithley with opportunities to meet the artist and learn more about the Barrel Art Collector Series, where the finished mural can be viewed, and how to get the 100% grain-to-bottle whiskey aging inside those barrels (hint: consumers will be able to buy them in select stores in October!) I look forward to sharing more this July.
